(From Sachabada.com)French photographer Sacha Goldberger has a new set of pictures that take cosplay to a crazy new level. Employing more than 60 models, costume makers, makeup artists, set designers and more, Goldberger mixes superhero cosplay with Renaissance art in his new project, which is on display in Paris. Not many cosplay pictures are recognized as art, and when you scroll down, you'll see why this is an exception. Not only are the costumes and photos amazing, but they were achieved without digital editing, using makeup artists instead of Photoshop to make the models look as close as possible to the source material. (Check out Superman for a great example of how they can achieve this transformation with just makeup.) Here's an excerpt from Goldberger's artist statement.

The collection demonstrates the use of 17 century techniques counterpointing light and shadow to illustrate nobility and fragility of the super powerful of all times. It also invites you to celebrate the heroes of your childhood. These characters have become icons to reveal their humanity: tired of having to save the world without respite, promised to a destiny of endless immortality, forever trapped in their character.
Here are a few of the pictures. Check out Goldberger's site for more.
